Beginning in Nairobi, this budget Bush and Beach Safari in Kenya takes us to two iconic Kenyan wildlife reserves, namely Amboseli National Park and Tsavo East National Park. Two days are spent on safari in Amboseli National Park, overlooked by Mt Kilimanjaro, where we marvel at the abundance of wildlife to be found there. From Amboseli, we move on to Tsavo East National Park, where we spend two days on wildlife viewing drives and looking for the famous Tsavo lions. On this wildlife safari, we camp in bush camps for an authentic safari experience.

Then we drive south to the beautiful tropical, palm-fringed beaches, south of Mombasa. We stay in a magical resort, on the shores of the warm, Indian Ocean beaches and set in 10 acres of tropical gardens. There are numerous activities on offer, as well as time to relax.

Itinerary for this Tour

Day 1: Nairobi, Kenya

Today you will be collected at Jomo Kenyatta Airport and transferred to your hotel in central Nairobi. The rest of the day is yours to spend at leisure, either relaxing at your hotel or exploring the busy city.

Enjoy dinner, at own expense, at one of the many restaurants in the city or at your hotel.

Day 2 – 3: Nairobi to Amboseli National Park, Kenya

After breakfast this morning, we head south to Amboseli National Park, arriving in time for lunch.

Today and tomorrow are spent exploring Amboseli on exciting wildlife viewing drives. Each day we make an early start as daybreak is the best time for spotting wildlife, as they gather at the waterholes.

Overlooked by Mount Kilimanjaro, Africa’s highest peak, Amboseli is one of Kenya’s oldest wildlife reserves. Its fame has spread and it is one of the most popular parks in Kenya, particularly for up-close contact with the vast herds of elephants located here. Amboseli’s big skies and sweeping horizons attract a variety of animals particularly the plains loving kind such as antelopes, spotted hyenas, jackals, warthogs, olive baboons and vervet monkeys. Whilst its swamps are home to hippo and buffalo and provide a great spot for the elephants to wallow.

Amboseli has diverse landscapes made up of the usually dried out lakebed of Lake Amboseli, surrounded by endless grasslands, punctuated by green swamps. The park benefits from an endless underground water supply filtered through volcanic rock from Kilimanjaro’s ice cap. This funnels into two springs in the heart of the park. However, this doesn’t guarantee a constant supply of water as Amboseli has suffered from drought as well as constant rains which turn the park into a swamp.

Don’t miss the easy climb up Observation Hill for a great 360º view, taking in the plains and, if it’s a clear day, marvellous views of Kilimanjaro.

During these wildlife excursions, we return to our camp for lunch and some relaxation or a swim in the pool before setting out on a late afternoon wildlife viewing drive. Dinner is served back at our camp where we can gather around the campfire recounting our exciting sightings with our fellow travellers.

Day 4 – 5: Amboseli National Park to Tsavo East National Park, Kenya

Today, after breakfast, we leave Amboseli behind and head for Tsavo East National Park. This park is equidistance between Nairobi and Mombasa and, jointly with Tsavo West National Park, is the largest park in Kenya at 13747 sq kilometres. Opened in 1948 it is situated in an area that was known as the Taru Desert and is a vast, semi-arid arena of parched scrub and heat-shimmering bush which is washed by the azure waters and emerald-fringed meanderings of the Galana River and guarded by the limitless lava reaches of the Yatta Plateau. We are fortunate to spend two days here in search of more exciting sightings, particularly on the lookout for the famous Tsavo Lions.

We spend our time here on early morning and late afternoon wildlife viewing drives, spotting the bounty of animals to be found here. Some of these include the Cape buffalo, caracal, Tanzanian cheetah, leopard, a diverse abundance of antelope, zebra, black rhino, the ubiquitous elephant and the famous Tsavo lions. Not to be outdone there are over 500 species of birds gathered here. A great spot for viewing is the Aruba Dam, whose brown waters attract the thirsty wildlife and water birds.

Once again our wildlife viewing is interrupted by lunch at our lodge and some time to rest before our late afternoon drive and dinner back at the lodge.

Day 6: Tsavo East National Park to Diani Beach, Mombasa, Kenya

Today we say goodbye to the wildlife on our safari adventures and head to the coast and its beautiful, tropical beaches. From Mombasa, we take the ferry to the south coast and our resort. Our 4-star beach resort features a unique blend of traditional Swahili and Arabic architecture. It is set in over 10 acres of mature tropical gardens and coconut palms. Here you will spend the next 5 nights.

We are free to spend the afternoon exploring our resort and the activities and amenities that it has to offer. Dinner is served at our resort.

Day 7 – 10: Diani Beach, Mombasa, Kenya

For the next four days, we have a plethora of activities to enjoy as well as time on the beach or at the pool soaking up the sun. You will be spoilt for choice when you see what activities the hotel offers, noting that some may be at extra cost. These activities include swimming, snorkelling, a PADI diving school, nature walks, a floodlit tennis court, volleyball, a squash court, a fitness centre, pool games, deep sea fishing, scuba diving, Petanque, tables tennis, water aerobics, windsurfing, pool tables and bird watching. Also available nearby are the Wasini/Kisite Island Marine National Park, an 18 Holes Golf Course, Shops/supermarkets, Casinos and Nightclubs.
