Itinerary for this Tour

Cape Town & Inverdoorn Game Reserve Day Tour

This action-packed day tour kicks off early this morning when you are collected from your accommodation in and around the city centre of Cape Town. Pick-up is between 06h00 and 07h00 in the city bowl area. Setting off from the picturesque Mother City, as Cape Town is known, we drive northeast in our comfortable transfer vehicle with air-conditioning. Our scenic journey takes us through the idyllic Cape Wine Region where South Africa’s finest wines are produced. From the beautiful Cape Winelands, we travel via rugged mountain passes into the fruit-growing area of Ceres in the Boland region. From the fertile Ceres valley, we proceed into the semi-arid Klein Karoo, a sparsely-populated inland region. Here we reach the malaria-free game reserve of Inverdoorn, one of very few Big Five destinations in the Western Cape.

Upon arrival at Inverdoorn Game Reserve, we enjoy welcome drinks. Then we embark on our exhilarating Big Five game drive in an open-sided 4×4 safari vehicle. The game drive lasts for about two hours and is conducted by a professional game ranger. The expert guide takes us in search of the Big Five (lion, rhino, elephant, leopard and buffalo), as well as the numerous other African wildlife and bird species found in this 10 000 hectare wilderness area. While out on the game drive we may stop to walk with the resident giraffes if conditions are favourable and time allows (at your game ranger’s discretion). Your ranger will tell you more about the fascinating local ecosystem and its living creatures, while you explore and is happy to answer questions about the flora and fauna of the region. During the morning we also visit the big cat preservation project at the game reserve, which is renowned for its cheetah conservation centre.

Our exciting wildlife encounters are followed by lunch back at the lodge. Lunch is served under shady trees in the outdoor boma (dining area). After lunch, you can take a dip in the swimming pool, relax in the gardens or on cool winter days settle down beside the cosy indoor fireplace. Then it is time to head back to Cape Town, soaking up the diverse scenery along the way. Our return journey follows a slightly different route, taking us via the impressive Huguenot Tunnel through the Du Toitskloof Mountains, back into the Cape Winelands.

At about 18h00 we arrive back in Cape Town and drop you off at your accommodation in the city bowl area, bringing this amazing Cape Town Big Five Budget Safari to a close.
