3 Day Budget Greater Kruger Lodge Safari to Klaserie Reserve

Summary of this Budget Safari Package

This family friendly, Budget 3 Day Kruger Park Lodge Safari takes us into the Greater Kruger National Park and the privately owned, crowd-free Klaserie Reserve.

The large, 6000 hectare traversing rights in Klaserie and the unfenced borders with the Kruger National Park and Timbavati provide ample opportunity for exciting wildlife sightings including the Big 5 of Africa. And because there are a limited number of camps in Klaserie it’s unlikely that you will encounter other safari vehicles, when out in the bush. Enjoy a true safari experience and take a bush walk with an experienced guide, whose knowledge of the secrets of the terrain is immense. This is an opportunity to immerse yourself in the African bush and there is always the chance of running into the local inhabitants.

Our family-friendly lodge is built for comfort, whilst maintaining the ambience of a safari experience. The pool area is perfect for cooling off and relaxing, whilst watching the wildlife pass by and the evenings around the campfire in the boma are an opportunity to get to know your fellow travellers and share the exciting experiences of the day.

Itinerary for this Tour

Day 1: Johannesburg to Klaserie Private Reserve, Greater Kruger National Park

We leave Johannesburg behind and head for the Greater Kruger National Park in our shuttle transfer, arriving at the lodge gates around 13:15, where we are collected by a guide from our camp. Driving to our camp through Klaserie is our first opportunity to spot wildlife. After a brief check-in, it’s time to enjoy lunch and relax before departing on our sunset, wildlife viewing drive in the early evening in open safari vehicles. Klaserie Private Reserve is home to the Big 5 of Africa (lion, leopard, buffalo, elephant and rhino), which roam freely in this huge traverse of 6000 hectares, alongside giraffe, zebra, a variety of antelope and many other species. As the sun sets we make our way back to camp, keeping an eye out for the nocturnal creatures as they begin their search for an evening meal.

Back at camp, there’s time to enjoy a pre-dinner drink before dinner is served in the boma around the campfire, where we marvel at the starry skies and relive the events of the day with our fellow guests.

Day 2: Klaserie Private Reserve

This morning we are woken bright and early as daybreak is the best time for sighting wildlife.  Our early wake up is tempered with coffee or tea and confectionaries before we set out in search of animals in our open safari vehicles, which provide the best viewing advantage for spotting wildlife and taking great photos. The wildlife will be making their way to the waterholes for early morning refreshment, so we head that way guided by our experienced ranger and Shangaan tracker. In Klaserie the wildlife is habituated to the safari vehicles, so it’s possible to get really up close and personal.

There is only a handful of lodges in Klaserie which means guests are unlikely to come across each other as they roam through this beautiful landscape. Birdlife is prolific and there are many species to be found such as various eagles, owls, francolins, kingfishers, rollers and weavers among the over 300 recorded.

After an exciting 3 hour safari, we head back to camp for a welcome hearty breakfast. There is an opportunity now to go out on a 45 minute bush walk with a ranger and Shangaan tracker. This is a once in a lifetime chance to immerse yourself in the tranquil African bush and learn from the ranger the meaning behind the easily overlooked signs, the intriguing plants and the tiniest creatures that survive in this natural habitat. And there is always the possibility of coming face to face with one of the local inhabitants.

Back at camp, it’s time for some relaxation, maybe a dip in the pool to cool off before lunch is served in the early afternoon. Then it’s back into our safari vehicle and another opportunity to add to your list of wildlife spotted as we embark on a sunset wildlife viewing drive. Dinner is served in the boma before we head to our comfortable lodge for our final night in the African bush.

About Klaserie Game Reserve in Greater Kruger Park

The idea of Klaserie Private Nature Reserve was born in 1969 when three farmers discussed combining their privately owned farmland along the Klaseries River to create a nature reserve to protect the natural landscape. The idea bore fruit in 1972 when a group of farmers had committed, a board had been elected, a game warden employed and Klaserie Private Nature Reserve was officially proclaimed. From the outset, the board was passionate about conservation and today, the reserve is involved in a number of wildlife projects including the Ground Hornbill Project, Rhino Protection, the “Tembo” project currently studying buffalo and The Elephant Project.

With no fences between Klaserie, Kruger National Park and Timbavati Reserve wildlife roam freely between these Big 5 parks. Spanning 60 000 hectares on either side of the Klaserie River, Klaserie is home to an abundance of wildlife including the Big 5 – lion, rhino, elephant, buffalo and leopard, whilst other regular sightings include giraffe, zebra, warthog, spotted hyaena, baboon, hippo, impala and kudu. The board’s philosophy has always been to keep the reserve pristine by minimising the human footprint, so the number of bush camps in Klaserie is limited which means fewer tourists, so guests can enjoy an exclusive safari experience away from the more crowded national parks. We explore this pristine wilderness on wildlife viewing drives and exciting bush walks with an experienced ranger and tracker.

Klaserie offers a unique safari adventure, free from the stresses of modern living and far away from the crowds of tourists.

About the Safari Camp

Our safari camp is located in the prestigious Klaserie Private Game Reserve, in the Greater Kruger Park and with an allocation of 6000 traversing rights guests are treated to varied landscapes and an excellent chance of spotting the Big 5.

The camp has four family chalets and 4 double chalets ensuring an intimate, crowd free environment. The communal areas include a comfortable lounge area, an open thatched dining room overlooking the waterhole where breakfast and lunch are served, whilst dinner is enjoyed around the campfire in the boma.
