Itinerary for this Tour

Day 1: Windhoek to Etosha National Park – Namibia

Our exploration of Namibia begins in its attractive and modern capital city – Windhoek. Located in the center of Namibia, Windhoek is the cultural, economic and administrative heart of the country. Meeting up at the selected pre-tour hotel we set off at about 07h00, driving north to Etosha National Park.

Early this afternoon we arrive in Namibia’s top game park, Etosha. Rated as one of the best wildlife destinations in Southern Africa, Etosha National Park offers outstanding game viewing in dramatic wild landscapes. Heading to our accommodation inside the national park the game viewing adventure begins right away! Tonight we stay at either Okaukuejo or Halali Camp, both of which have floodlit watering holes for watching wildlife between game drives. Check into your room and head over to the waterhole to spot visiting animals, including lions and rhinos, before our evening game drive.

This evening we embark on a thrilling night game drive, exploring the bush in an open 4×4 safari vehicle. Local guides conduct the night drive, using their experience and in-depth knowledge to search out nocturnal wildlife activity in Etosha Park.

  • Activity Package: 4×4 night game drive in Etosha National Park

Day 2: Etosha National Park – Namibia

Day two is dedicated to game viewing in the rugged African bush. Etosha Park is home to huge numbers of wildlife which can be seen roaming around the fringes of the vast Etosha Pan, covering much of the protected area. On our game drive we visit the flat expanse of the salt pan to stare out across the stark wilderness where mirrages shimmer and horizons stretch wide.

We drive to various waterholes to see what animals luck brings. The watering holes are nodes of activity in this arid wilderness area drawing together thristy herbivores and predators, often leading to fascinating encounters.

At the end of our exciting day of game viewing we make our way back to camp for dinner and relaxation. Visit the floodlit waterhole at camp to get a glimpse of the elusive night creatures that often come to drink here.

  • Included Highlight: Full day game drive in tour vehicle

Day 3: Etosha National Park to Brandberg & Khorixas – Namibia

This morning we get one last dose of wildlife viewing in Etosha National Park. Keep your eyes open for large mammals, birds and smaller creatures as we make our way out of the park through dramatic African landscapes.

From Etosha we drive into the remote region of Damaraland, the north-western part of the Namib Desert. Here we visit Brandberg Mountain, the tallest peak in Namibia. The name Brandberg means ‘Fire Mountain’ which describes the glowing hues that the mountain often displays at sunset.

We overnight near the town of Khorixas in the wild and secluded southern Kunene Region of Namibia.

  • Included Highlight: Morning game drive in tour vehicle

Day 4: Brandberg & Khorixas to Swakopmund via Spitzkoppe – Namibia

Today our travels take us to the rugged Atlantic Ocean coastline, via Spitzkoppe.

Spitzkoppe is one of the most distinctive natural features of Namibia – a towering massif of exposed granite rock. Walking with a local guide we explore the striking rock formations and San rock art at Spitzkoppe. The granite peaks, or inselbergs, rise up about 700 metres above the surrounding landscapes offering sweeping views out over the flat, deserted plains of Damaraland.

Next we stop to view an ancient Welwitschia Mirabilis specimen over 2000 years old. These rare and strange-looking succulents are endemic to the Namib Desert, surviving in harsh desert conditions.

Then we proceed to our last stop for the day, the charming seaside town of Swakopmund. Known as the Adventure Capital of Namibia, the lively town is an oasis of activity nestled between the icy ocean and baking hot desert.

  • Included Highlight: Spitzkoppe guided walk / Welwitchia Mirabilis visit

Day 5: Swakopmund – Namibia

On day five we linger in Swakopmund, allowing time for adventure activities and relaxation.

The ultimate adventures on offer in and around Swakopmund include skydiving, scenic flights, hot air balloon rides, sandboarding and quad biking in the dunes of the Namib Desert. If the ocean is calling, you can take a boat cruise in search of dolphins and other marine animals, go fishing or sea kayaking, or brave a dip in the cold waters.

For those wanting to stay on dry land there is plenty to do in Swakopmund, which like Windhoek features a charming blend of European and African elements. Relax at a quaint coffee shop and enjoy the German inspired pastries, or visit the musuems, galleries, monuments and more. As the top seaside holiday spot in Namibia, the fresh seafood is also a highlight of Swakopmund.

Day 6: Swakopmund to Solitaire & Namib Desert – Namibia

We are up early this morning, setting off into the ancient Namib Desert. Our route takes us via Solitaire, the only settlement in the middle of the sparsely populated Khomas Region.

We pause in Solitaire to visit the small desert hamlet’s famous bakery and have its delicious specialty apple pie. After stretching our legs and exploring Solitaire we continue to our lodge near the Namib Naukluft National Park.

  • Included Highlight: Apple pie in Solitaire

Day 7: Namib Naukluft National Park – Namibia

Wake up in the heart of the Namib, the oldest desert in the world.

Driving into the massive 49768 km² Namib Naukluft National Park, we watch the sandy desert landscapes come to life as the sun rises. Our desert exploration begins with Sossusvlei and Deadvlei. These visually arresting pans attract photographers from far and wide, forming the archetypal desert scenery associated with Namibia.

Walk around Sossusvlei and Deadvlei, taking in the stark scenes of cracked, dry pans underfoot and ochre-red dunes all around. Here gnarled dead trees, some still standing and others fallen, create surreal silhoutes in dramatic contrast with the blue skies and red dunes.

Next, we head to the picture-perfect Dune 45, one of the tallest dunes in the Sossusvlei area. You have the chance to hike up the iconic dune or take it easy at the base. The panoramic views from the top of Dune 45 make the climb well worth the effort.

Leaving the sea of towering red-orange dunes behind we drive to Sesriem Canyon. Here we stop to admire the sedimentary rock layers formed over ages of river erosion through the narrow canyon. We spend another night at our peaceful desert lodge, marvelling at the endless star-studded skies.

  • Included Highlight: Sossusvlei, Deadvlei, Dune 45 & Sesriem Canyon

Day 8: Namib Naukluft National Park to Maltahohe – Namibia

Back on the road this morning, we travel to the southern region of central Namibia, leaving the enchanting Namib Desert behind.

Today’s highlight: meeting the Nama people of the Hardap Region. The Nama are a Khoikhoi tribe, that have inhabited Southern Africa for thousands of years. These traditional pastoralists are of Khoisan ancestry, sharing roots with the San (bushmen) hunter-gatherers tribes.

After our cultural encounter with the fascinating Nama of Namibia we set off on a nature drive. On our drive we stop in a scenic spot to admire a beautiful Namibian sunset in the wilderness.

Tonight we stay at a lodge near Maltahohe on the Namseb Plateau.

  • Included Highlight: Nama community visit
  • Activity Package: Sunset nature drive

Day 9: Maltahohe to Kalahari Region – Namibia

After breakfast this moring we drive northeast into the Kalahari Desert region of Namibia

Travelling through the red sands of the Kalahari, we experience the rugged beauty of these remote open plains and low hillls. Tonight we stay at a tranquil lodge on the fringes of the southern Kalahari. This semi-desert habitat supports diverse forms of animal and plant life, receiving more rain than a true desert. We may come across a variety of antelope species, like eland, kudu, oryx and blue wildebeest, as well as zebras and other wildlife. Keep an eye out for the darting meerkats, as the Kalahari is famous for these curious members of the mongoose family.

We spend the next two nights at a game ranch in the untamed Kalahari wilderness.

Day 10: Kalahari Region – Namibia

Day 10 is set aside for exploring the Kalahari. Embark on optional activities at the ranch or simply relax and take a refreshing dip in the pool.

You can join a scenic drive or set off on a guided walk with the local San (bushmen), visiting a small village in the area. There are morning, afternoon and night game drives available, as well as cheetah viewing activities at the cheetah conservation centre.

The sparsely populated Kalahari is ideal for stagazing with its clear skies and dark nights. The lodge has a stargazing observatory with a state-of-the-art telescope for watching the stars and planets, so tonight you can settle down and marvel at the countless heavenly bodies.

  • Included Highlight: Stargazing at the observatory

Day 11: Kalahari to Windhoek – Namibia

On the second last morning of our Luxury Namibia Adventure we have breakfast at the ranch, soaking up the views of the open Kalahari bushveld.

Then we drive north into the Khomas Highlands of Namibia and back to Windhoek, where our overland adventure began. We spend our last night at an acclaimed wildlife sanctuary, just outside of Windhoek, ending the day off with a sunset game drive. On our sunset drive we may encounter zebras, giraffes and various antelope species, along with cheetahs, leopards and caracal. Driving through the small reserve we stop for sundowners, watching one more serene sunset over the African bush.
