Itinerary for this Tour

Day 1: Maun to Moremi Game Reserve – Botswana

At the start of this Moremi Tented Safari your guide for the duration of the safari meets you at the Maun Airport, in northern Botswana. Our departure time from the airport depends on the flight schedules of the commercial airlines, but we usually leave at about midday.

Setting off from the airport in Maun we drive to the Moremi Game Reserve, one of the top safari destinations in Botswana. Along the way we stop for a picnic lunch before continuing to the eastern side of the delta where Moremi lies.

Arriving at our first mobile campsite in the wilderness, we settle down for sundowners in the rugged bushveld. We spend two nights at the first camp, which is pre-erected in the Third Bridge area, near Xakanaxa camp. This is one of the most game-rich regions of Moremi Game Reserve, boasting excellent year-round game viewing.

Your safari crew prepares dinner and makes a cosy campfire at the private campsite. Sit back under the stars and enjoy having the camp to yourselves.

  • Camping in Xakanaxa / Third Bridge Area of Moremi Game Reserve
  • Meals: Picnic Lunch & Dinner

Day 2: Xakanaxa Area of Moremi Game Reserve – Botswana

Today we spend the entire day on game drives in the award-winning Moremi Game Reserve. The only proclaimed game reserve in the Okavango Delta, Moremi is famous for its incredible diversity of habitats and wildlife species. In addition to being one of the best places for game viewing in Southern Africa, the reserve is renowned for its beauty.

Moremi Game Reserve is about 5000 km² in size, encompassing almost a third of the Okavango Delta. Your experienced guide takes you in search of the abundant wildlife in an open-sided safari vehicle, immersing you in this wild environment. Wildlife sightings often include lions, elephants, hippos, buffalos, zebras, giraffes and wild dogs, as well as cheetahs, leopards and a wide array of antelope species, such as the red lechwe.

Return to the mobile tented camp, located close to a tributary of the Moanachira River in the western part of Moremi. Spend the evening relaxing around the campfire and tuning in to the sounds of the African bush.

  • Camping in Xakanaxa / Third Bridge Area of Moremi Game Reserve
  • Meals: Breakfast, Lunch & Dinner

Day 3 – 5: Khwai Community Area – Botswana

On day three we are up early for breakfast, before moving on to our next campsite in the Khwai area. The crew takes down the mobile camp and packs up the camping equipment, driving a support vehicle ahead to set up the next camp for you.

As we make our way through the bush to Khwai we pause for a picnic lunch and keep an eye out for birds and game. Our second camp is erected in the Khwai community area, serving as our base for the next three nights. The community area is a concession situated along the Khwai River, forming the border of Moremi Game Reserve.

Over the next few days we explore the Khwai region on game drives and a mokoro trip. Your expert guides take you on morning, late afternoon and night game drives in search of the array of wildlife found on the Khwai floodplains. On one of the days you will also embark on a mokoro ride along the winding channels of the far eastern section of the Okavango Delta. Mekoros are the traditional dug-out canoes used to navigate the watery delta system. Sit back and let the local guides push and pull you through the clean waters of this unspoilt wild place for about two and a half hours.

Night game drives are a real highlight, taking you into the bush after dark on thrilling adventures. The night drives provide opportunities for sighting shy and unusual nocturnal creatures with the use of spotlights. Our night drives take place in the Khwai area, outside of Moremi Game Reserve, as night drives are not permitted inside the official reserve.

  • Camping in the Khwai Community Area (bordering on Moremi Game Reserve)
