Big Five Safari to Inverdoorn Game Reserve

This Cape Town Package includes a full day safari to the Big Five Inverdoorn Game Reserve, located two and a half hours’ drive from Cape Town

We set off for Inverdoorn early in the morning, departing from the guesthouse in Sea Point between 06h15 and 07h00. Leaving the city in our air-conditioned transfer vehicle we drive into the Cape Winelands, admiring the scenic landscapes in the soft early morning light. Continuing into the Klein Karroo we pass through the famous Ceres Valley, with its lush fruit orchards and vineyards stretched out at the foot of the lofty Boland Mountains. Beyond the fertile Ceres Valley lies the semi-arid Klein Karroo, a beautiful and remote region south of the Swartberg Mountains in the Western Cape.

Soon we arrive at the acclaimed game reserve, where welcome drinks are served. Then we board an open 4×4 safari vehicle for our rewarding two-hour game drive in the 10 000 hectare wilderness area. This game-rich reserve is home to all of the famous Big Five of Africa (buffalo, elephant, rhino, lion and leopard) – one of the few places to see the Big Five in the Western Cape of South Africa.

Inverdoorn also hosts cheetahs, jackals, hippos, zebras, giraffes and numerous kinds of plains game, such as eland, gemsbok, kudu, impala, springbok and wildebeest. In addition to the over 1200 wild animals at Inverdoorn, numerous local and migratory bird species have been spotted. These bird species include African fish eagles, black-breasted snake eagles, giant kingfishers, Cape vultures, Cape eagle owls, flamingos, ostriches, secretary birds, sacred ibis, black stork and jackal buzzard, amongst many.

Get up close to the free-roaming wildlife and birds inhabiting this malaria-free game reserve as you explore in the open safari vehicle. Out in the bush, your professional guide can tell you about the amazing animals, birds and plants of the region.

Your day safari in Inverdoorn includes lunch under the trees or in the boma (open-air style) restaurant. During the day we also visit the Lion Preservation Project at Inverdoorn, to discover more about these majestic big cats and the conservation work being done to ensure their survival. If time allows you may get to walk with the resident giraffes, at the game ranger’s discretion. In between the game viewing highlights you are free to cool off in the pool, or sidle up to the fireplace in winter.

Inverdoorn Game Reserve Safari includes:

  • Travel via Cape Wine Region, Ceres Fruit Valley & Klein Karoo
  • Welcome drinks at Inverdoorn Game Reserve
  • Open vehicle 4×4 game drive (two hours)
  • Walk with giraffes (time allowing & at game ranger’s discretion)
  • Visit Lion Preservation Project at Inverdoorn
  • Lunch in boma restaurant or under the trees
  • Leisure time at the pool or beside the fireplace
  • Return to Cape Town via Huguenot Tunnel
