Itinerary for this Tour

Day 1: Maun to Okavango Delta Camp – Botswana

This Budget Delta & Moremi Safari begins in Maun, travelling to the Xakanaxa Boat Station in Moremi Game Reserve. From Xakanaxa we take a motorboat to Xobega Island Camp, located on a private island in the Okavango Delta of Botswana.

We cruise along the delta waterways, taking in the wild scenery and watching for animals and birds. After about one and a half hours we arrive at the camp on Xobega Island. The staff welcomes you to camp and shows you to your tents. Settle in and relax before our first excursion into the network of Okavango Delta waterways.

As sunset approaches we set off on a boat cruise, slowly navigating the winding, reed-lined channels that run between the islands. Keep your eyes open for the diverse array of birds found in the delta, known for its abundant birdlife. We may also come across hippos, elephants and other animals whilst cruising. Along the way we stop to look at the breeding sites of storks and ibises, getting a closer look at these active heronries.

After witnessing a beautiful sunset from the water, sundowners in hand, we glide back to camp. Freshen up and enjoy dinner and drinks around the flickering campfire, before falling asleep to the chorus of frogs and the occasional grunting of hippos.

Day 2: Okavango Delta & Moremi Game Reserve – Botswana

Wake up to the sound of chirping birds in the heart of the Okavango Delta, surrounded by unspoilt nature. Our day starts with breakfast in the dining tent amid the trees, where vervet monkeys are often spotted.

After breakfast we leave Xobega Island by boat, cruising for about 45 minutes to reach the Mboma Boat Station. At Mboma we switch to dug-out mekoros for our exploration by traditional-style vessels. Local guides pole the mekoros through the water, moving us quietly and slowly along the delta channels.

Then it is time to return to land, hopping into a safari vehicle for our game drive in Moremi Game Reserve, one of the most prestigious wildlife areas in Botswana. After searching out the increcible wildlife of Moremi we stop for a picnic lunch on Mboma Island. After our picnic in the wild, it is time to cruise back to Xobega Island by motorboat.

Freshen up, take a quick bucket shower and have a cool drink, unwinding at camp this afternoon. Later you have the option of venturing back into the delta channels on the sunset cruise, ending the day with some laid-back sundowners on the boat. This evening we tuck into a three-course dinner and sit back around the campfire under starry skies, listening to the sounds of untamed nature.
