The scenic Lake Manyara also attracts an abundance of birds, such as flamingos, storks, cormorants and pelicans.
In the early evening we make our way to the luxurious Farm House Valley lodge, looking out over the Ngorongoro Highlands. This evening we have dinner at the lodge, soaking up the sweeping views from the lodge in Karatu village.
Day 04: Lake Manyara to Serengeti National Park – Tanzania
On day four we get up and have breakfast at the lodge, before driving to Olduvai Gorge in the Ngorongoro Conservation Area. We visit the Olduvai Gorge Museum and have our picnic lunch at this famous site. Some of the oldest Hominid fossils have been discovered in the volcanic rock of this narrow gorge in the Great Rift Valley, making it one of the most important prehistorical sites on the planet.
From Olduvai Gorge we travel to Serengeti National Park, entering this legendary wilderness area via Nabi Hill Gate. The Serengeti Ecosystem, spanning across the Tanzania-Kenya border is arguably the world’s best wildlife safari destination. The most famous of Tanzania’s national parks, the Serengeti is the quintessential African safari destination featuring rolling savannahs teeming with wildlife. One of the most spectacular wildlife phenomena on the planet – the seasonal Great Migration takes place in the Serengeti and Kenya’s neighbouring Masai Mara. Also known as the Wildebeest Migration, the Great Migration sees hundreds of thousands of wildebeest, zebras, Thomson’s gazelle and more stampede across the open plains and rivers along ancient migratory routes.
Following our afternoon game drive we head to Kati Kati Tented Camp or Grumeti Migration Camp for dinner and an overnight stay in the Serengeti area of Tanzania.
Day 05: Serengeti National Park – Tanzania
Today we start with breakfast and then we explore Serengeti National Park, taking a morning and afternoon game drive. You can choose between a picnic lunch out in the African bush or a hot lunch back at the lodge.
Serengeti Park is world-renowned for its superb game viewing, often rated as the best wildlife destination in Africa. Serengeti is a year-round game viewing destination, promising an unforgettable safari experience throughout the year. We return to the camp in the late afternoon for dinner and a relaxing evening at Kati Kati Tented Camp or Grumeti Migration Camp.
Day 06: Ngorongoro Crater – Tanzania
Breakfast first, then we pack up and set off for Ngorongoro Crater, the ultimate Tanzanian game park for spotting the Big Five. Stopping at the rim of the Ngorongoro Crater we take in the spectacular views over this unflooded caldera, before descending to the crater floor for an afternoon game drive. We explore the base of this UNESCO World Heritage Site covering some 260 km² of game-rich wilderness.
The Ngorongoro Crater hosts exceptionally high concentrations of wildlife, making it one of the best places to see a multitude of wild animals at relatively close range. During our game drives in the largest continuous, unflooded caldera in the world, we frequently sight an abundance of animals and birds. Almost every African mammal species is represented in this diverse and fertile area, including elephants, buffalos, rhinos, wildebeest and the big cats (lion, leopard and cheetah), along with hyenas and other predators.
Later in the afternoon we retrace our steps, ascending the crater walls and making our way to Karatu. Enjoy dinner and an overnight stay at the Ngorongoro Farm House or Farm Valley near the village.
