Itinerary for this Tour
Day 1: Maun to Khwai Guest House – Khwai & Moremi Area
This Khwai & Moremi Budget Lodge Safari begins in Maun, the closest town to the Okavango Delta. Setting off from the travel hub of Maun we drive to Khwai village, about three and a half hours away.
Our guest house is located in the Khwai community area, which borders on the renowned Moremi Game Reserve. The only official protected area in the Okavango Delta, Moremi covers the eastern section of the wild Delta. Our stay at Khwai Guest House is all inclusive of meals, activities and park fees.
Day 2 & 3: Khwai Guest House – Khwai Concession & Moremi Game Reserve
This Budget Botswana Safari offers an ideal mix of cultural experiences and wildlife encounters in the African wilderness. We spend two full days in the Khwai area, exploring the remote Khwai village and both Khwai Concession Area and Moremi Game Reserve.
The Khwai Guest House is set on a spacious property in Khwai village making it an ideal base for visiting the traditional hamlet. Take a walk through the rural village and meet the local people, encountering a different way of life. Experience the old African traditions and customs that are still practiced in this small community in the wilderness of Botswana.
We also embark on game viewing activities in the famous Moremi Game Reserve and Khwai Concession Area. Both host a rich variety of wildlife, which moves freely between the two wilderness areas. Moremi is one of the finest and most sought-after wildlife destinations in Botswana and Khwai is a lesser known gem offering excellent game viewing. This area covers diverse habitats, from forests to floodplains, which are home to a wide variety of animals and birds. The abundance of wildlife in Khwai and this part of Moremi include numerous predators, including lions, wild dogs and leopards. There are also plenty of game species, as well as elephants and buffalos.
Daily activities include game viewing drives in open 4×4 safari vehicles and mokoro trips. Mekoros are the traditional dug-out vessels used to navigate the Okavango Delta waterways. Gliding along the serene channels in the middle of the bush is an unforgettable experience! Each mokoro is poled through the water by a guide who stands in the back of the canoe, allowing you to sit back and enjoy the scenery, looking out for animals and birds.
We also set off on bush walks (depending on the season), to experience the bush up close and personal. Walking in the untamed wilderness with experienced guides is an exhilarating adventure!
Day 4: Khwai Guest House to Maun – Botswana
On day four we have breakfast at the lovely Khwai Guest House before packing up and heading out of the Delta.
The three and a half hour’s drive takes us back to lively Maun where this exciting Khwai & Moremi Budget Lodge Safari began. You are transferred to the Maun airport for your domestic or international flight onward.
