3 Day Greater Kruger Budget Lodge Safari to Maseke

Summary of this Budget Safari Package

This short 3 Day safari to Maseke in Greater Kruger Park is an introduction to the thrill of going on safari in the African bushveld.

Greater Kruger Park in the eastern province of Mpumalanga is made up of more than twenty private game reserves and shares open borders with Kruger National Park, South Africa’s iconic wildlife reserve. This has created a huge wildlife reserve through which the animals roam freely. Taking a wildlife viewing drive in an open safari vehicle in Greater Kruger means your guide is able to take you off-road into the bushveldt to experience the action up close and personal, which creates great photo opportunities.  Unlike Kruger National Park, which can become quite crowded, you are unlikely to come across other safari vehicles, which allows for a private safari of discovery

The intimate camp is designed for privacy and with only four x 2 bedroomed chalets and four luxury, en-suite tents, the camp will never be crowded. Experience the excitement of a safari, sundowners in the bush, a hike in the bushveldt with an armed guide coupled with relaxation and delicious meals in a private safari camp. A safari taken in style.

Itinerary for this Tour

Day 1: Johannesburg to Greater Kruger Reserve, South Africa

An early morning pickup in our air-conditioned minibus signals the start of this 3 Day Greater Kruger Budget Lodge Safari to Maseke. Our journey to Three Bridges, Mpumalanga takes approximately six hours and on arrival, we are met by a guide from our safari camp. We transfer to an open game-viewing vehicle and before too long we enter the Greater Kruger Reserve and our have first opportunity to spot the wildlife inhabiting this undulating landscape. On arrival at our home for the next couple of days we are served lunch and then prepare for our first foray into the bushveldt.

Once the afternoon has begun to cool down we board our safari vehicle and venture out in search of the diverse amount of wildlife wandering through this landscape of rocky outcrops, undulating terrain and sections of the Olifants River. As well as the Big 5, elephant, leopard, lion, buffalo and rhino, this vast reserve, sharing borders with Kruger National Park is home to giraffe, zebra, hippo, wild dog, exceptional birdlife and much, much more. As the sun begins to set we toast its departure with sundowners in the bush. Then we head back to camp, searchlight blazing as we look out for the nocturnal creatures that are beginning to stir.

Back at camp, we refresh ourselves before heading to the boma for dinner under the stars.

Day 2: Greater Kruger Reserve, South Africa

Awake to the sounds of drumbeat dragging you from your dreams and the reality of the African bush to the prospect of an exciting day on safari.  Fuelled with coffee and a light breakfast we board our safari vehicle and head out for a three-hour wildlife viewing drive. This is a great time to spot the wildlife as they are gathering at the river bank to quench their early morning thirst. Our guide, who is well acquainted with this reserve, seeks our the well-known spots for the best views and photo opportunities. As this is a private reserve you will feel like your vehicle and the wildlife are the only inhabitants of this African wilderness. Wildlife viewing is thirsty works so we stop to fill up on tea and cake or fruit and juice before continuing our search. Then it’s back to camp for a welcome breakfast and a few hours of rest and relaxation.  Cool down in the pool, find a comfy spot near the waterhole to relax and observe the thirsty animals gathering there or take a nap in air-conditioned comfort.

After a light lunch, served around three we head back out into the bushveldt and more wildlife viewing. Our drive follows the same procedure with a pause for sundowners and a search for nocturnal creatures as we head back to camp in the dark and dinner under the stars.

Day 3: Greater Kruger Reserve to Johannesburg, South Africa

The sound of drums signals what is, sadly, our final day in the bushveldt. There is time for one last sortie into the bush and a final opportunity to add to your spotted list and take some great photos. Back at camp, we enjoy a hearty breakfast before heading to Three Bridges and our transfer back to the city. This 3 Day Greater Kruger Budget Lodge Safari to Maseke will have no doubt whet your appetite for another venture into the African bush.
